St. John’s Hospice would like to sincerely thank all of our service men and women who fight for our freedom.  Today is a day to reflect on all the freedoms and liberties that this day represents.  Someone who is facing a terminal illness may fear that they have lost their independence and freedom which can be worrisome.  St. John’s Hospice honors and respects all patients and their choices.  Each patient should have the freedom to make decisions regarding life-sustaining treatments, advance care planning, and how they wish to carry out their final days.

St. John’s compassionate care team will have end-of-life conversations with the patient and their loved ones to establish a plan of care that is tailored to their needs and wishes.  The team will focus on how the patient wants to live their life according to what is meaningful to them and their family. Hospice care is intended to improve the quality of life by involving the patient and their family in setting goals and participating in the decision-making process.

Upholding these choices ensures the patients’ independence and dignity until the very end.  If you or your loved one would like to know how St. John’s Hospice can help patients have independence at their end-of-life journey, contact us at 210-718-0551.
