TIPS FOR MEDICATION MANAGEMENT

Managing medications can be challenging, especially for seniors who take numerous medications daily. Staying on top of and organizing your medications can make life not only easier but safer. Below are some helpful tips for managing your medications.

Valuable Tips For Managing Your Medications*
by Valleywise Health

  • Use a Pill Box or Organizer. A pill organizer makes storing your medication simple by having an AM / PM, weekly or monthly schedule. Once it has been filled, it is straightforward about what medications need to be taken in the morning and which ones need to be taken in the evening. Some of the newer pill box organizers have alarms to remind you to take your pills and some will even send a text to your phone as a reminder.
  • Keep a Schedule. Keeping a schedule and/or list of all medications that need to be taken and when will also help you stay on track.
  • Have a Master List. Keep a master list of all medications that you are taking, as well as the dosage.
  • Monitor Medications. Monitor medications and how they interact with other prescriptions such as NSAIDs, sleep aids, vitamins, supplements, CBD or tobacco and alcohol use.
  • Stay Informed. Know the side effects of the prescriptions you are taking and recognize that some may make you unsteady on your feet. Talk with your doctor about the safety of each medication you are taking.

If there is anything you don’t understand about your medications, don’t hesitate to ask for more information until you are fully comfortable with what is prescribed.

Managing numerous prescriptions can be a little intimidating, but by utilizing some of these tips, setting-up a prescription routine can be much simpler. Organizing your medications ensures you are taking steps toward a better quality of life.
